Demi Lovato Says They've "Talked About" Marriage and Kids With Boyfriend Jutes
Demi Lovato's love life seems to be going pretty swimmingly. During an appearance on a Sept. 11 episode of "The Howard Stern Show," Lovato revealed that she's discussed marriage with boyfriend musician Jutes and added that they "definitely" want kids in the future. "We've talked about it," they said, noting that they're still "taking our time with it a little bit." "I think it's important not to rush that," Lovato added.
Lovato also opened up about seeing Jutes for the first time. "He came in to write on one of my sessions and I was in the studio and was immediately attracted to him. I texted my friends on the side and was like, 'He's so hot!'" she said. "Now I'm at a place where I'm in an amazing relationship and my boyfriend is a year older than me. We're growing together and it feels so healthy."
Later in the interview, Lovato said their relationship with Jutes feels like a step up from past relationships. "I think what I went through is that I had a phase of dating older men and dating older guys. I went through a phase when I was attracted to older guys because of my daddy issues, obviously," they said. "For me, I was a teenager. And so to me, that's gross. If you are 50 and 60, you're fine. Even 30 and 40, that's not gross at all. But, I think that when you're in those development years, you should absolutely not be with somebody that is older than you by that much. It's just unhealthy and toxic." Now, though, it seems Lovato has worked through a lot of those past issues. "I can say with confidence that my daddy issues aren't anything that are inside of me anymore. And I think there's a few signs to that," she said. "I'm with a partner that is my age, essentially. I look back on the past and think, 'That's gross.'"
Lovato and Jutes met while working together on Lovato's eighth album, "Holy Fvck," in July 2022, and were photographed out and about soon after. On Aug. 8, 2022, People confirmed the "Skin of My Teeth" singer was in a new relationship. "It's a really happy and healthy relationship," a source close to Lovato said at the time. "He's a super great guy."
Later that month, Jutes confirmed their relationship with a sweet tribute to Lovato on Instagram. "ur smile literally cures my depression (there's a song lyric in there somewhere)," he wrote in the caption. "i'm so proud of u for not only surviving everything you've been through but coming out on top and becoming ur healthiest happiest sweetest self."
On March 28, Lovato shared a carousel of photos of their boyfriend along with an affectionate caption in honor of his 26th birthday. "My sweet angel - it's officially your birthday!!!" she wrote. "I couldn't be more excited to celebrate you because I couldn't be more in love with your gorgeous, funny, sexy, talented self. I've waited my whole life to find you and I can't wait to celebrate so many more birthdays together.. you're a literal dream come true and I'm so grateful to call you mine. Have the best birthday my love.. you deserve it, the world, and more!!!! Here's to many more 🥰🥰🖤🖤🎂🎂💫💫 I LOVE YOU 😘😘😘".
Lovato's relationship with Jutes is her first since their breakup with her ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich, in September 2020. Lovato, who began dating Ehrich in March 2020, announced her engagement to the actor on July 22, 2020, five months after they made their relationship public. "You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself," Lovato captioned the since-deleted post. "I'm honored to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I'm ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here's to our future!!!!"
Before dating Ehrich, Lovato was romantically linked to model Austin Wilson. The pair made their relationship Instagram official in November 2019 but decided to part ways in December. At the time of the split, a source told People, "[Demi's] concentrating on herself and her work right now, as well as focusing on her relationship with God. She's excited for what this next chapter in 2020 will bring."
Prior to meeting Wilson and Ehrich, Lovato was also in a six-year relationship with Wilmer Valderrama, who they began dating when she was 18 and Valderrama was 29. "When I turned 18 we started dating," Lovato says in their 2017 documentary, "Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated." "I think it was love at first sight, we connected on a level that I've never connected with anybody before, he was just my rock, my everything." In 2016, the two announced that they were breaking up in joint posts on Twitter. "This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another," she captioned the posts.
The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer's relationship history also includes Joe Jonas, Trace Cyrus, Mike Johnson from "The Bachelor," Enfants Riches Déprimés designer Henry Levy, UFC fighter Luke Rockhold, and more.
