Learning to care for my curly, frizzy, thirst-quenched hair has been a process, to say the least. After switching to a silk pillowcase, drying my hair with a microfiber towel on wash days, and practicing curly-hair-styling techniques, I'm deep in the trial-and-error phase of experimenting with new hair products that smooth, protect, and add shine. After trying a couple of hair oils that either smelled too strong, left my strands feeling greasy, or didn't offer enough frizz control, I've finally found one that checks all of my boxes. The Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil ($23, originally $30) is my new favorite hair product discovery, and I've been using it daily for the last two weeks. I was hoping for an oil that would tame my frizz, but I've been blown away by its other benefits.
It's currently on sale for Amazon Prime Day 2024, but the sale is almost over, so I'm stocking up ASAP.

What I Like About the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
After I apply this oil, my hair immediately absorbs it. I can layer on as much as I need to without worrying about it weighing down my layers. I love that I can add it to my hair when it's damp for heat protection and then work it through the ends and the layers around my face once it's dry. The buildable formula is easy to use without worrying about overdoing it, so I usually apply a little every day in between washes. I'm still surprised by how soft my curls feel after applying it. Its star ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, is part of Olaplex's patented Bond Building Technology™ that repairs damage by relinking broken bonds. I'm used to running my fingers through my dry split ends, but the bonding oil really helps to smooth and hydrate my usually coarse, dry hair. Since I'm sensitive to fragrances, I appreciate that this hair oil has a light, pleasant smell that isn't detectable once it's applied.
How to Use the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
The oil comes out very slowly, which I actually appreciate since it's easier to control the amount you pour. To use it, turn the bottle upside down and tap your finger against the bottom of the bottle until you have about two or three drops to work with. Depending on how thick your hair is, you can continue to add more. It can be applied to damp or dry hair before styling with heat and can be used daily after styling for extra shine.
What to Consider Before Buying Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
A big thing to note is the size of the bottle. It's only one ounce, which is considerably smaller than some of the other hair oils I've tested. At $30, it's also on the pricier side when you compare the cost for the amount of product you get. That said, a little really does go a long way. I've been using it consistently for a couple of weeks now, and I've hardly put a dent in the bottle.
